Jugo De Mango is a Latin world fusion band blending traditional and modern cumbia, reggae, and rock rhythms into a tangible palate of alluring dance music. Singer/songwriters Armando Pérez and Juan Lugo, along with Dan Lieber (drums/percussion) and Ryan Schoen (bass) form the live band. Performing dynamic, energetic shows, Jugo De Mango’s music speaks to worldly listeners.

ELLOO – Tatiana Garcia

Elloo is an artist from Chicago, born and raised in Pilsen. She primarily produces original paintings and illustrations, as well as works on objects and nick nacks. Elloo began emerging in the art scene with her lovable “donut and candy devouring characters.” Her passion has always been to create monsters that that “out-creep” the ones before.  She challenges herself to constantly evolve her style, while still creating creepy, cute, and magical monsters. She welcomes you into her world, Tateeland.

Reggae Selectress Kinky P focuses on traditional Sound System Culture from Jamaica, playing the classics and latest international Reggae Sounds. A founding member of Chicago’s Reggae, Dub y Cumbia party, Kinky P plans to haul out a special crate of cumbias alongside her usual fare for CumbiaSazo. Some of her influences include King Tubby, Lee Scratch Perry, Mad Professor, Jah Shaka, King Earthquake, Zion Train, Channel One, Dubkasm, Radikal Guru, Jahtari, Mungo’s HI FI, Dreadsquad, Dub-Stuy, Simmer Down Sound, Irie Ites, and Digital Dubs. Strictly Vinyl!!

Eating is for Winners

Gabriela Parra is a Chicago based Chef but her roots are from her hometown Puebla, Mexico. She has had some formal training but her strongest foundation and influence has come from her seven aunts and her Mother. Gabriela specializes in what she calls Mexican comfort food, essentially the food she grew up eating with her family, but recreates it using the Farm to Table ideology.

While her main focus is Mexican food, she is also influenced by many cultures, such as American Northwest, Szechuan, Southeast Asian and Contemporary American. Gabriela is currently working as a Personal Chef & Sous Chef at Hearty Boy Catering. She is also the owner and founder of Eating is for Winners, an event and catering business that has an underground following in Chicago’s Music and Arts communities.

Kids in the crew have been pushing us to do this party from the start! Years in the making, they’ve been contributing art, decor & ideas to the mix that will be on display at CumbiaSazo KIDS and will be helping out with the DJing as well.

Pablo Serrano is an Artist based in the Pilsen community in Chicago. As a son to Mexican immigrants who came to Chicago from Durango Mexico in 1979, his work has focused on using the creative potential of art to explore different aspects of citizenship, education, and politics. Constantly seeking to engage different members of the broader community about important questions and concerns through his art classes and art shows, he believes that every creative means possible should be used to find and make meaning in this complicated world. With this interest in engaging in meaningful social discourse to deepen both a sense of self and a sense community among strangers every experience has the potential to reveal something about ourselves and our world.
